Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is equipment that protects workers from health and safety risks at work. PPE can include:
- Safety helmets and hard hats
- Gloves
- Eye protection
- High-visibility clothing
- Safety footwear
- Safety harnesses
- Respiratory protective equipment (RPE)
- Hearing protection
Employers are responsible for providing, replacing, and paying for PPE if a risk assessment shows it is needed. PPE should only be used when other measures are inadequate to control exposure.
